George Washington House
Where the young Washington stayed

About George Washington House
The young George Washington and his ailing brother Lawrence lived in this plantation house, also known as Bush Hill House, for two months in 1751, and Visit Barbados notes that Barbados was the only country he ever visited outside what became the United States. Beneath the Garrison runs a system of drainage tunnels built in the 1820s, rediscovered by chance in June 2011, which you can visit only from the house. It opens daily, including holidays, from 9am to 4pm. Its old website address has been taken over, so contact it by phone.
